About bitlvl

bitlvl is a set of small, fast tools for the layer most software sits on top of: numbers in different bases, bits and bytes, network addresses, encodings, hashes, tokens and time. The audience is developers, sysadmins, network engineers and students who need an answer quickly and sometimes want to see how that answer was produced.

How it is built

Every tool is plain HTML, CSS and a few kilobytes of hand-written JavaScript. There is no framework, no third-party script, and no backend: the site is static files behind a CDN. The maths runs in your browser, which is why pages load instantly and keep working offline once opened.

Where it helps, the tools show their working. The base converter writes out the positional expansion, the float visualizer labels the sign, exponent and mantissa, and the subnet calculator prints the mask in binary. Understanding the bits is the point.

Accuracy

Integer tools use arbitrary-precision arithmetic, so 64-bit and larger values are exact. The hash tool uses the browser's built-in WebCrypto for the SHA family and a tested implementation of MD5. If you find a wrong answer, that is a bug and we want to know about it.

Languages

The pages exist in English, German, Spanish, Italian, Serbian and Russian; the switcher is in the header. The results and messages a tool produces while it works are still in English for now. The English URLs are the canonical ones and never move.
